EmilĂana Torrini - Serenade đ”
Two posts today. Feel like we could do with it.
2005 - whattayear huh? Look at us! Babies burned by heartache and traumatic situations, fumbling on the rocks of life. I was living in London at the time. #nosleep #grindin (insert Clipse-Neptunes beats here)
This song walked me from my home-which-wasnât-really-my-home in Harlesden at the time, to Willesden Junction to catch the tube. To be honest i switched between this record and Bloc Party (any) depending on anxiety level and how much fight i needed to muster. This mp3 experience was portable thanks to my chonky 4th gen ipod classic which i treasured.
Anyhoo, this balm eased me into the Bakerloo Line, able to show up to my day job following an all nighter of side hustles, find space to process, or at least, lean on something i could trust a while.
Oh, did we dive too deep here?
Ok letâs switch this, and divert to a live performance which is equally beautiful.
đFunfact: in 2006 i wrote a script for a short which i called âSerenadeâ and it was very earnest and lolz-cringe butâŠi miss that part of me sometimes, you know? I mean, iâm still cringe but i digress. I miss sharing script with director friends and getting lost in details of our dream projects. Iâm going to go hunt for that scriptâŠ
So, some encouragement then, to remember a little bit of younger you today. Think it helps in uncertain times. You made it this far. We will make it through and, if i may quote EmilĂana,
âThe morrow will heal the night soâŠâÂ
We will make it through tough times again. Loop, loop and loop that again. Cause everythingâs a cycle my friend. Every. Thing.
Hereâs a podcast episode about just that in case itâs useful.
Onward then!
Playlist below but for now iâll paste the lyrics in here:
New world formingÂ
Picturesque in its stanceÂ
Midnight callingÂ
Moonlight shadows start to danceÂ
For the dark finds ways of beingÂ
Engraved in the lightÂ
And the heart bears indentationsÂ
Of yesterdays hurting childÂ
The now we will run with smilesÂ
The morrow will heal the night soÂ
Morning comesÂ
Midnight make fast with the sunÂ
I can hear my name be rebornÂ
On the cloud within the sky beneath the dawnÂ
Oh IÂ
Serenade the dawnÂ
Serenade the dawnÂ
Serenade the dawnÂ
For the dark finds ways of beingÂ
Engraved in the lightÂ
And the heart bears indentationsÂ
Of yesterdays hurting childÂ
The now we will run with smilesÂ
The morrow will heal the night soÂ
Morning comesÂ
Midnight make fast with the sunÂ
I can hear my name be rebornÂ
On the cloud within the sky beneath the dawnÂ
Oh IÂ
Serenade the dawnÂ
Serenade the dawnÂ
Serenade the dawnÂ
âŠâŠâŠ..
